TELEPHONES

The telephone was invented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922) who once said that he foresaw the time when there would be a telephone in every town in America.

At first, making a phone call required calling an operator who put the caller and the person being called in touch with each other, literally by plugging wires into the right sockets.
