WATER MILLS IN CEREDIGION

mill on the Rheidol, Paul Sanby Munn, 1803

The flow of water in streams and rivers was often enough to turn a wheel which could drive machinery, particularly if there was a big difference in height (the head) between the water and the wheel to be turned.

Water was used to drive corn mills, furze mills, woollen mills and various farm machinery such as threshers and winnowers.
