ACETYLENE

Water dripping on calcium carbide produces acetylene gas, which burns with a very bright flame.

Acetylen gas, was used for house lamps, bicycle lamps and in one case at least, a whole house in Llanbadarn Fawr.

This 'new illuminant' was installed in Councillor Griffin's House at Sea View, Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth by Mr Hollier in 1901.
