OVEN

Ovens were used to bake bread and cakes and sometimes to roast meat. Ovens were rare in any but the largest houses in Ceredigion until the 20th century. When the open fire was replaced by a built-in grate, the oven attached to one side was used as much for drying wood for fuel as for baking.
