MILK COOLER

97

exhibition number: Dairy 97

Used to cool milk as soon as it was taken from the cow. This was necessary to stop it going off. The milk was poured into the dish at the top, and allowed to flow through the holes onto the curved surface of the cooler which acted like a radiator in reverse, since cold water was run through the pipes at top left and bottom right. The milk was collected in a dish at the bottom from which it was poured into a churn. The whole cooler would have to have been cleaned very thoroughly every time it was used.

This milk cooler was made by Wolseley, Sheep Shearing Machine Co, Birmingham.
