LABOUR

Most people were involved in agriculture

Some people worked in lead mines (but not all the time)

Women often worked in the farm kitchen and dairy

Spinsters (unmarried women) spun wool, knitted socks, were specialist oat cake makers and gathered stones from fields (to improve the chances of seed sprouting) and put them on the road side for improving the road.
