Coliseum

Exhibition number: Displays 1

Welcome to the Coliseum

The Coliseum is one of the finest and most unusual buildings in Aberystwyth. Built as a theatre in 1904-5 it was the venue for at least 5,000 events including 760 plays, early films, Eisteddfodau, amateur productions, political meetings and concerts until 1932 when it was converted into a cinema. From then on about 3,800 programmes of films were shown in it until 1977 when it closed.

In 1982 the Coliseum opened as a Museum for the County of Ceredigion.
