Welsh Tapestry jacket, 1970s

Welsh Tapestry is the term applied to a double woven cloth, producing a pattern on both sides (i.e. reversible). It was first used to make blankets, but its success as a product for sale to tourists led to its use in placemats, coasters, bookmarkers, tea cosies, purses, handbags and spectacle cases. It is not strictly a tapestry which is a woven pattern, often a picture, to be viewed from one side only.
