RELIGIOUS OBJECTS DISPLAY

Religious objects display

Exhibition number: Displays 34

This display includes items relating to non-conformist religion, especially the Wesleyan Methodists. It includes items from the Old Chapel at Tre'r Ddol, 9 miles north of Aberystwyth which played an important part in the revival of 1859 led by Humphrey Jones and Rev Dafydd Morgan. The chapel later became a museum dedicated to non-conformist and local craft objects owned by R.J. Thomas, some of which are now incorporated into the Ceredigion Museum collections.

Tea sets were made for use in chapels and church halls. They included the name of the relevant organisation and sometimes a transfer print of the building. These were not normally made for sale, but may have been made by the same firms that made souvenir china.
