HORSE COLLAR

exhibition number: Agriculture 19.1

Horse collars spread much of the strain of pulling ploughs and carts. They fitted around a horse's neck and rested on the shoulders. They had to be put on upside down then rotated so they fitted over the horse's head.

Most were made of leather with a straw or blanket filling. They had hames attached to them.
