TAIL DOCKER

exhibition number: Agriculture 18.2

Horses, especially those used for hunting, had their tails cut off to stop them getting muddy. Both the mud and the removal of the tail stopped the horse from flicking flies off their back. Tail cropping became illegal so now, during a hunt, some horse tails are platted.
